WEEK FIVE Stripping the chassis Now with the engine out came the complete stripping of the chassis. Rear axle, bulkhead, steering column, gearbox, all brake and hand-brake rods and compensator shafts, fuel tank, ride control and chassis lubrication pipe work, wiring loom, the list goes on. With the chassis finally stripped and the chassis lubrication network labelled up for ease of refitting, the chassis is now ready to be shot blasted.
Picture above shows the brake light switch with chassis lubrication pipe for pedal cross-shaft.
Above picture shows brake compensator shafts, notice the original red/brown colour the chassis was painted. The paint was applied quite liberally to most parts of the chassis.
The grease and filth that collects on components, as with here under the steering drop arm cover, often helps to protect.
On the dismantled rear springs above, the cadmium plating can still been seen where the springs retained their grease within the gaiters. Where the springs became dry, the rust has clearly set in, hopeful though with a little cleaning, most of these leafs can be re-used.
